CASTOR OIL PACKS FOR DETOX
Castor oil has been cited in one of the oldest medical textbooks as a remarkable healing remedy for chronic and acute inflammation. The Ebers Papyrus, written in 1500 B.C. describes the topical use of castor oil as a remedial treatment in Egypt. It has also been used historically in China, India and throughout Europe, where the castor plant itself was known as 'palma christe' or 'hands of Christ'.
The analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties are largely due to the high concentration of ricinoleic acid extracted from the oils of the castor seed. The oil activates a specific defense of the T-cell lymphocytes which identify and kill pathogens. Studies have shown an increase of T-cell activity for a remarkable 7 hours after a minimal two hours of therapeutic use. This immune boosting support helps the body's specific defensive mechanisms to ward off viruses, bacteria, fungi, cancer cells and their toxins. There is further evidence showing a suppressive effect on tumors and painful arthritic conditions.
Castor oil treatments stimulate lymphatic drainage and assist in natural liver detoxification. The external application of castor oil can treat many skin afflictions including dryness, rashes, hives, eczema, infections, fungus, warts and benign skin cancers. Castor oil packs can be used to ease painful intestinal or uterine contractions. The packs can also be used to speed healing from trauma including strains, sprains, torn muscles and degenerative joint disorders. The hour-long application can also provide time for quiet rest or meditation - which has its own glowing benefits.
How to Make and Use Castor Oil Packs
High quality hexane-free castor oil
Plastic wrap or tin foil
An old towel
A heating pad, hot rice pack or hot water bottle
A glass jar to soak and store wool between uses
Carefully cut and prepare a square of wool folded in thirds to cover the surface area you are treating. For liver detox, make sure to cover your abdomen completely!
Place the wool fabric into the glass jar and soak with castor oil
Remove fabric, squeezing excess oils from the wool back into the jar
Laying on an old towel, place the oil-saturated fabric over the desired treatment area (Castor oil can cause stains, use the towel to protect your couch or sheets)
Layer plastic wrap or tin foil on top of the wool
Place heating pad, hot rice pack or hot water bottle over the area to be treated
Let the warm oil soak in for at least 30 - 90 minutes, using your downtime wisely
Afterwards, place the wool back into the jar for later use
Clean your skin with a mild soap cleanser
For persisting and chronic conditions, castor oil packs can be administered 2-3 times daily for 30 minutes with each application -OR- applied once a day for 90 minutes. Short term relief is to be expected within a few treatments, however for lasting relief, continue applications for a 2 - 4 weeks
